The Carbondale City Council was expected to vote Tuesday on a resolution that would appropriate $152,050 for a new downtown walking and biking path.

The funds have already been approved by the council but must be formally requested because of Illinois Department of Transportation protocol.

The proposed path would connect Mill Street and Veterans Plaza on Main Street with a trail running along the east side of the railroad tracks.

City officials expect construction to begin in late spring or early summer.

The council was also expected to award $12,500 to Dean Bush Construction Company to move the West Main sanitary sewer and vote on a labor agreement between the city and General Teamsters, Automotive, Petroleum and Allied Trades Local Union 50 that would cover the next four fiscal years.
