Files

The DuQuoin, Illinois Community Unit School District may have additional savings at the end of the present school year since a number of personnel are slated to retire.

The issue was discussed during the recent Board of Education meeting. The board and administration held a discussion regarding the 2016-2017 budget planning. State funding is quite uncertain while several positions need to be filled. There will be further discussions later in the school year with a determination of personnel placement for the next school year.

Those who attended the meeting included President Larry Valier, Vice President Paul Brock and Secretary John Vancil. Other board members present were Dennis Cole, Luke Davison, Karen Williams and Mark Woodside.

Brock made a motion to approve the payment of bills for December 2015 and the December 2015 financial report. The motion, seconded by Davison, was passed with no dissenting votes.

Cole made a motion to adopt a resolution approving the renewal of temporary borrowing through DuQuoin State Bank for items related to a high school construction project. The motion, seconded by Davison, was unanimously passed as well.

Cole made another motion, seconded by Brock, to approve the consent agenda. It was also unanimously passed.

DuQuoin Education Association (DEA) Co-President Jean Ann Mathis also informed the board that the DEA would be sending a letter to the administration as a formal request to begin the collective bargaining process with the board.
