Kane Osterhage will play soccer at SWIC

Osterhage

Waterloo, Illinois High School senior and all-state soccer midfielder Kane Osterhage recently announced he will play soccer for Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) starting in the 2016 season.

Osterhage finished the 2015 season with 83 points, 31 goals and 21 assists for the Bulldogs, leading the team to a Class 2A state title. In his four years as a high school soccer player, Osterhage had a total of 58 goals and 30 assists.

SWIC head soccer coach, Larry Petri, is excited to have the talented player on the team next season. “Obviously, we’re hoping Kane can come in here and do what he did for the Waterloo program,” Petri told the Belleville News-Democrat. “I mean, here’s a kid who played as a freshman and steadily improved as his career went on to where he lifted that (Waterloo) program to the next level."

Petri said that part of the reason SWIC was able to get Osterhage was because he wasn't he wasn’t getting the looks he wanted from NCAA Division I schools. "I know he probably wants to go to Louisville," he said. "I told him that you come in here and do the work that you are supposed to and we’ll see what we can do to get you there. We want to help prepare him for the next level.’’

Osterhage will be joined by teammate Chase Rubemeyer, a defender, at SWIC.
