As House Speaker Mike Madigan canceled a planned June 16 House session — the second week in a row he canceled a planned session — Illinois Sen. Gary Forby went on record admitting the legislature was at a standstill and was waiting for Madigan to tell them what their next move should be.
“I think he (Madigan) thought we’d have something to do, but you know, we don’t have anything to do,” Forby said in a recent interview with Southern Illinois radio station WJPF AM 1020 and AM 1340.
Illinois Republican Party spokesman Steven Yaffe said Forby "should get back to work" and vote on two bills Republicans have proposed that would fund schools, government services and prisons.
"People are suffering right now in Illinois," Yaffe said. "Parents are rightly worried that summer school programs will be canceled and that schools may not open in time in the fall. Our prisons need funding to ensure that they continue to operate. It is outrageous that Gary Forby is waiting on orders from Mike Madigan to do anything about this."
