Waterloo City Council approves solicitation request

The Waterloo City Council met Aug. 1 to approve a solicitation request from the Knights of Columbus Council.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the council:

MINUTES OF THE

CITY COUNCIL MEETING

AUGUST 01, 2016

1. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Tom Smith.

2. The following Aldermen were present: Notheisen, Thomas, Hopkins, Trantham, Darter,

Koerber and Heller. Alderman Frederick was absent.

3. Pledge of Allegiance led by Alderman Heller’s granddaughter Sophia.

4. Correction or Withdrawal of Agenda Items by Sponsor.

None.

5. Approval of Minutes as Written or Amended.

Motion made by Alderman Darter and seconded by Alderman Koerber to approve July 18,

2016 7:30 p.m. City Council Meeting Minutes. Motion passed unanimously with Aldermen

Darter, Koerber, Heller, Notheisen, Thomas, Hopkins and Trantham voting yea.

6. Petitions by Citizens on Non-Agenda Items.

None.

7. Reports and Communications from the Mayor and other City Officers.

A. Report of Collector.

No report.

B. Report of Treasurer.

No report.

C. Report of Subdivision & Zoning Administrator.

No report.

D. Report of Director of Public Works.

Director Birk reported 1) Asphalt overlay will begin Aug 4, 2016 in the Sunset Acres

subdivision, 2) Pre-construction meeting August 10, 2016 with IDOT regarding the

Hamacher, Osterhage and Bradford project, 3) The following streets will be closed

Wednesday evening to paint paws: Hamacher, Rogers, First and Bulldog Blvd.

E. Report of Chief of Police.

F. Report of City Attorney.

No report.

G. Report and Communication by Mayor.

1. Commendation presented to Randy’s Double R Bar for 25 Years of Service.

8. Report of Standing Committees.

No report.

9. Report of Special Committees.

Shawn Kennedy announced events taking place Saturday, August 6 for the Bicentennial

Palooza. The Purple Heart ceremony will take place August 7 at 1 p.m.

10. Presentation of Communications, Petitions, Resolutions, Orders and Ordinances by Aldermen.

None.

11. Unfinished Business.

12. Miscellaneous Business.

A. Consideration and Action on Warrant No. 544.

Motion made by Alderman Koerber and seconded by Alderman Hopkins to approve

Warrant No. 544. Motion passed unanimously with Aldermen Koerber, Heller,

Notheisen Thomas, Hopkins, Trantham and Darter voting yea.

B. Consideration and Action on Waiving of Building Permit Fee in the Amount of

$496.00 for the Waterloo Park District for a New Pavilion to be Located at Zimmer

Park.

Motion made by Alderman Koerber and seconded by Alderman Notheisen to approve

waiving of building permit fee in the amount of $496.00 for the Waterloo Park District

for a new pavilion to be located at Zimmer Park. Motion passed unanimously with

Aldermen Koerber, Heller, Notheisen, Thomas, Hopkins, Trantham and Darter voting

yea.

C. Consideration and Action on Solicitation Request from the Knights of Columbus

Council #1334 for the Intersections of Hamacher & Rogers, and Mill & Main for

September 16 and 17, 2016 from 6 a.m. to noon for their Annual Tootsie Roll Drive.

Motion made by Alderman Heller and seconded by Alderman Darter to approve a

Solicitation Request from the Knights of Columbus Council #1334 for the

intersections of Hamacher & Rogers, and Mill & Main, for September 16 and 17, 2016

from 6 a.m. to noon for their Annual Tootsie Roll Drive. Motion passed unanimously

with Aldermen Heller, Notheisen, Thomas, Hopkins, Trantham, Darter and Koerber

voting yea.

13. Discussion of Matters by Council Members Arising After Agenda Deadline.

Alderman Thomas reported participation with the FFA at the Monroe County Fair was a lot

of fun.

Alderman Darter thanked the Waterloo Police officers for all their work in the heat on and

off the fairgrounds during the Fair.

Alderman Koerber reported she was contacted by Dwight Boehm regarding the two vicious

dogs which attacked a woman’s dog. The dogs are still impounded. The Ordinance Committee

will meet Thursday morning.

Alderman Heller stated Tom and Shawn have been working with him on the Sister Cities

banquet for October 11 at the Hopskeller and those attending need to let Clyde know ASAP.

Mayor Smith announced Russ Row, who has served 8 years as Building Inspector/Code

Administrator, will be retiring September 30, 2016. Mayor Smith thanked everyone who

participated and helped with the officials and their families for the photo at City Hall at 7 p.m.

14. Motion to Adjourn. Motion made by Alderman Notheisen and seconded by Alderman

Hopkins to adjourn. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote. Mayor Smith adjourned the

meeting at 8:05 p.m.
