Southern Illinois University men's basketball player Thik Bol recently earned Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week honors, according to a report on the school's athletic website.
Bol, a junior center who transferred from Iowa Western Community College, averaged 12.5 points, seven rebounds and two blocks a game during action the week of Feb. 1.
He scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and two blocked shots in the Salukis' 85-65 win over Bradley on Feb. 1 at home. Bol followed that effort with 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting, eight rebounds and two blocked shots in SIU's 67-61 win over Loyola on Feb. 4 in Chicago.
Through Feb. 4, Bol averaged 9.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocked shots per contest in 25 games. According to the MVC website, as of Feb. 4, Bol was second in the league in rebounds and blocked shots per game and fifth in field-goal percentage at 55.3 percent.
