Five Southern Illinois University-Carbondale seniors in the Information Systems Technologies major are participating in a nationwide competition in St. Louis on April 8.
The contest will be held at the Association for Information Technology Professionals National College Conference and Career Fair; this is the third time a student web-development team from SIU has participated. Participants must build a web application for a non-profit. This year's project will be an application for Ascend, a student organization that is part of the College of Business.
A fundraising effort to help take advantage of an early-registration discount is set up on Go Fund Me at Gofundme.com/siucaitp2017.
The team has three members from Illinois—Matt Gross, Lee Cooper and Cody Lingle—plus Hallie Martin from Atlanta and Ren Jing from Sichuan, China.
Students will also compete in database design and security challenges. Lingle participated last year and won the security challenge.
