Southern Illinois University COEHS Executive Council met April 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The meeting was called to order by Dean Matthew Keefer.

Present: Carl Flowers, Saran Donahoo, Jeanette Johnson, Saliwe Kawewe, Matthew Keefer, Christie McIntyre, Jodi Miley, Nancy Mundschenk, Cynthia Sims, Juliane Wallace, Keith Waugh, Susan Wills

Absent: Paul Melzer

Guests: David DiLalla, Harvey Henson

Administrative Reports (Cabinet)

The Minutes of March 9, 2017 were presented and approved.

• Associate Provost for Academic Administration, David DiLalla: - DiLalla reported on the new Faculty Agreement and how it impacts summer semester, as well as answering questions from Chairs and Directors. He plans to distribute spreadsheets today. * He will also find an answer and respond to questions about NTT. - DiLalla also reported on workload agreements. * He will send an updated template this week.

• Dean’s Report/Announcements:

- Keefer announced that the deans will have a second program prioritization meeting in May.

- Juliane Wallace announced that Kinesiology and Public Health and Recreation Professions faculty have voted unanimously on becoming one school and are moving forward to changing the program plan.

- * Keefer asked C/D to send names of attendees to the upcoming Identity and Impact event to Darla by Friday, April 21.

- Keefer announced that CASA is having a Flash Talks event on April 28, 6-8 pm, Carbondale Community Arts Center.

- * Keefer reminded C/D to look at curriculums/programs to see about efficiencies.

- Keefer announced we received the No Child Left Behind Grant that will provide $750,000 for ELL/Bilingual endorsement teachers and dual credit in our college and COLA this summer. Dr. Crystal Caffey has agreed to serve as the Program Coordinator.

• Associate Dean’s Report (Cynthia Sims):

- Sims announced that EDUC 505 will be offered on Wednesday evenings for summer. Discussion followed about EDUC 505, 511, and 512. *Sims will respond to C/D by email asking for feedback.

- * Dissertation approvals are due by Friday.

• Office of Teacher Education Director’s Report (Nancy Mundschenk):

- Mundschenk reported edTPA scores have been returned. Even the lowest scoring students exceeded the minimum cut score.

- Mundschenk announced that PE, Biological Sciences and WED each have 2 faculty members that fulfills the capstone schedule for those majors. Other program faculty are still needed.

- Mundschenk announced a change to the CAEP scope for advanced programs. Prior definition of an advanced program was any advanced degree that was completed by an educator. The new scope has contracted that down so that it is only including graduate programs that prepare for a particular credential or license/endorsement. It also excludes any program that is accredited by an accrediting body that further excludes Speech and Language Pathology and School Counseling.

- Mundschenk reported all licensure programs (undergraduate and graduate) will be included in the data pilot next year. This pilot will replace the ISBE Annual Program Reports.

• Business Manager (Susan Wills): no report

• Recruitment and Enrollment – reports on Dept/School/Initiatives (Jodi Miley):

- Miley provided updated numbers on admitted students. * She will send reports to C/D.

Administrative Reports Continued

• Eclipse Update (Harvey Henson):

- Henson reported that the arena concourse area has spaces available for departments to reserve a table to interact with attendees for Sunday and Monday, August 20-21. Event planners want interactive activities for these. If interested, people can contact Henson for more information. Information continues to be updated at http://eclipse.siu.edu/.

• Advisement (Cynthia Sims):

- Sims reported that two candidates will be interviewed for the Chief Academic Advisor position.

- Sims reported that Miley is helping in advisement at this time.

• Graduate Council Report (Saran Donahoo): Report sent via email

• Foundation (Paul Melzer): no report

• Recruitment and Retention (Jodi Miley):

- Miley announced there will be an Open House on April 14.

- She also announced that New Student Orientations will begin on Monday, April 17.

- Saluki startup will be August 16-18.

- Weeks of Welcome will be August 22 – September 9, 2017.

• Web specialist (Jeanette Johnson): * Report to be sent by email.
