State Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) recently took to social media to remind Illinois residents that Illinois State Police have now opened three regional FOID kiosks across the state.

The new locations are designed to assist people with limited internet access in completing their FOID applications.

“The regional kiosk for Southern Illinois will be located in Du Quoin,” Bryant posted on Facebook.

In addition to the Du Quoin location, FOID kiosks are now also open in Northern Illinois at Illinois State Police District 5 and in Central Illinois at Illinois State Police Central Headquarters.

The new locations are being added at a time when state officials are hard at work weeding through a FOID backlog that at one point rendered the processing of applications to a complete standstill.

More recently, the Firearms Services Bureau has reduced the FOID backlog by 89% for renewals and 75% for new applications.

“This is a continuation of our efforts to streamline the application and renewal process of FOID Cards through the Office of Firearms Safety,” Illinois State Police Director Brendan F. Kelly told WREX.com. “We are dedicated to stay this course.”

In November, the Illinois State Police approved 21,011 applications for new FOID cards and 8,419 applications for renewals.

Representatives at the kiosks will not be available to assist customers with revoked cards or denied applications. Those customers will need to contact the Office of Firearms Safety.
