City of Waterloo Ordinance Committee met Oct. 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Meeting Called to Order: 5:55pm 

Committee Members Present - Darter- C, Notheisen, Heller, Trantham, Hopkins, 

Others Present –Tom Smith, Tim Birk, Nathan Krebel, Shawn Kennedy, Mechelle Childers 

Agenda 

1. Petitions by Citizens on Non-Agenda items – None 

2. Discussion regarding City Officials Salaries per City Code Section 1-3-1 

Brief discussion about start Year for the Ordinance change, all agreed that first pay period in May 2025 was appropriate. 

Shawn Kennedy made the changes to the Ordinance. 

Motion made by Clyde Heller to accept the Ordinance with changes made by Shawn, 2nd by Jim Hopkins, unanimous vote. 

3. Discussion regarding Accessory Buildings per City Code Section 40-3-2, more specifically premanufactured patio cover kits. 

Krebel distributed Ordinance 40-3-2 Accessory Buildings 

Lengthy discussion about Pre-Manufactured Gazebo type structures that now require a permit however many homeowners assemble/install them without a City Permit. Discussion if they are temporary or permanent, securing them to prevent becoming airborne during a storm, unenclosed, fabric type coverings, Sunsetter Awnings, etc. 

Consensus that they would still be required to get a Permit. 

Motion made by Notheisen (50-200 sq feet, Gazebo type structure, unenclosed, no fabric roof coverings, properly secured) 2nd by Heller, unanimous vote to recommend. 

4. Comments 

Nathan Krebel said that he had been contacted by an individual with a preliminary site plan for the 22.8 acres in front of Northwinds as an R5. Consensus was that would not be acceptable. 

Motion made by Notheisen to adjourn, 2nd by Heller, meeting adjourned at 6:33pm.
