Rep. Friess met with homeschooling families in Pinckneyville, Illinois, to address concerns about House Bill 2827. The meeting, organized by Carrie Gilliam, the Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Pinckneyville, saw over 50 parents in attendance. These families expressed strong opposition to the bill, arguing it infringes on their rights to educate their children at home.

During the meeting, Rep. Friess voiced his support for the homeschooling community’s stance against HB 2827. “I agree, and I firmly oppose HB 2827 as it places unnecessary burdens on homeschooling families and undermines parents’ rights to make the best educational choices for their children,” he stated. He emphasized that Illinois has traditionally supported educational freedom for homeschoolers and warned that the bill would introduce unwarranted government oversight.
