State Representative Friess has addressed several pressing issues affecting Southern Illinois in a recent newsletter. He emphasized his commitment to advocating for policies that benefit the community, highlighting various legislative efforts and challenges.

Friess discussed the conviction of former House Speaker Michael J. Madigan on multiple counts in federal court, stating, “No one, not even the most powerful politician, is above the law.” He criticized the current House rules and called for meaningful ethics reforms from House Republicans to ensure government accountability.

In response to gun ownership regulations, Friess introduced House Bill 1232 to repeal the Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card Act. He argued that “the FOID card is redundant and unnecessary,” as federal background checks already regulate legal gun purchases.

Addressing education concerns, Friess proposed HB1211 to tackle the teacher shortage crisis by removing barriers for aspiring educators while maintaining high standards. He emphasized that “a strong education system is the backbone of our future.”

On public safety, Friess introduced House Bill 1206 offering student loan repayment assistance to former police officers willing to return to service. He stated that experienced officers are needed “to maintain public safety” and ensure safe communities.

Friess also expressed frustration with what he described as political gamesmanship by Democrats in Springfield. Last Wednesday, he and his Republican colleagues walked out of a session in protest against resolutions they deemed ineffective.

He concluded by inviting constituents to share their concerns and ideas with him, reinforcing his dedication to serving Southern Illinois effectively.
