Carbondale Human Relations Commission votes to forward the Annual Report

Carbondaletown

The Carbondale, Illinois Human Relations Commission met recently and voted to forward the Annual Report to the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager, with or without the data from the police department.

The commission also discussed the Annual Retreat and decided it should be held in July consistent with the two previous retreats. Coordinator Sarah Heyer reported on the homelessness and homeownership discussions held by the Neighborhood Alliance; and Cathy Field reported that the Racial Justice Coalition continues to meet monthly.

Commissioner Ted Gutierrez reported that he spoke with Chief Jeff Grubbs regarding Commissioner Eric McMillan and his work on the department’s mission statement.

The Human Relations Commission was founded in 2003. It was created to serve as an advisory body to the City Council on human relations; to study problems relating to relationships among individuals and groups of all kinds; and to coordinate the establishment and maintenance of educational programs in the community designed to bring about better human relations.
