Jefferson FPD responds to 97 fires in 2016
The calls in Jefferson included 97 fires - 47 structure fires, 19 vehicle fires and 31 other fires.
In all, the department saw $3,376,600 in fire loss - or about $34,810 per fire.
The department also received 17 false calls, including two malicious calls and 15 other false calls.
The calls resulted in four civilian fire-related injuries and one civilian fire-related death. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.
The Jefferson FPD Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has four active employees and seven retired or inactive employees, was $106,323 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,096 for every fire in 2016.
