EMS mutual aid agreements and sign variance requests were up for discussion at the recent Columbia, Illinois Committee of the Whole meeting.
The committee was updated on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) mutual aid agreements at the meeting. Interim EMS Chief Shannon Bound explained how the city of Columbia ambulance service and county agencies agreements function. The mutual aid agreements ensure that when a Columbia ambulance is not available, the county services step up to provide assistance. In return, Columbia EMS assists the other agencies as needed.
While the mutual aid agreements have been effective, Bound stated that they need updating. She requested a new agreement with an agency licensed for Advanced Life Support (ALS). The committee agreed to recommend approval of the mutual aid agreements at an upcoming City Council meeting.
The committee also heard and reviewed sign variance requests from Faith Lutheran Church at 600 Columbia Centre and Life Community Church at 626 W. Bottom Ave. After hearing the requests and discussing the allowable square feet for signage at each location, the committee agreed to have staff prepare the appropriate ordinances for each variation request, which will be submitted at the next City Council meeting.
Phase 2 of the Main Street resurfacing project and notice procedures for water service disconnection were also approved for ordinances and resolutions at the next City Council meeting. The Surface Transportation and Congestion Mitigation Program grant discussions will be revisited at the next committee meeting.
