Members of the Carbondale Planning Commission discussed a public parking matter during a recent meeting.
The issue was raised by Shelton’s Towing & Recovery LLC, which requested an auto storage yard inside a General Industrial zoning district. This means the business needs a Special Use Permit approved because the property is based at 401 West Industrial Park Rd.
In response to questions, owner Matt Shelton stated that he has not held a vehicle any longer than four months. He also had not had any problems with people attempting to retrieve a vehicle, because the lot has a six-foot fence around it that includes three barbwire strands at the top. There is also a locked gate at the entrance.
The board recommended that the permit be approved. It has been sent to the city council for approval.
At the meeting, members voted for 2016 officers. There was a unanimous voice vote for Jim LeBeau as chair, and Craig Anz as vice chair.
