Following Gov. Bruce Rauner’s budget address on Wednesday, David Severin, the GOP candidate for the 117th District state House seat, made a statement of his own.

Severin's response was prompted by a rather poor outlook on the state’s budget. Severin said he wanted to work to get Illinois back to a prosperous place, recognizing that its economic slump has led many residents to move to other states in search of greener pastures.

Severin said he would fight for Southern Illinois and find fiscal and economic solutions. At the moment, Severin said there is no way to create a sound and stable Illinois because no one has presented any solutions.

Currently, the tax structure, budget impasse and other conditions have created a very serious situation, and the governor emphasized in his address that many of the state’s bills are delinquent, with high interest rates making payments unmanageable with no reprieve in sight. Severin said he is prepared to find a way to create a fiscally sound state and still take care of the people in it.
