The Mt. Vernon, Illinois City Council took in a presentation from City Engineer Brad Ruble recently on the progress of the city's capital projects.
The report said the city's most expensive single project, the $4-million reconstruction project on 42nd Avenue, is 45 percent done and waiting on weather to break for crews to finish the job.
Design work has been completed or almost completed on construction projects scheduled for North 27th Avenue at Old Union Road and Perkins Avenue from 10th to 12th. Ruble said city officials are procuring easements for the Old Union Road project. Perkins Avenue work is expected to begin by the end of March.
Other designed projects on the slate include nearly $600,000 in sidewalk repairs, $2.85 million in water main work along Broadway, and new homebuilding at Woodglen Acres.
The council also opened bidding on 4th of July fireworks and an OSHA-compliant outdoor chemical storage building for Fleet Services.
