The Lone Oak Baptist Church of Energy recently donated a Knabe baby grand piano to the Carbondale, Illinois Middle School Band.
The antique musical instrument, which dates back to approximately 1940, is worth more than $25,000. Even though the piano is more than 75 years old, it is still in mint condition, with keys made of real ivory.
The piano was handed over during a recent Carbondale Elementary School District meeting at the CES95 Administrative Center. Board president John Major made his remarks early in the meeting before a number of committees could submit reports.
The Finance and Personnel and Recruitment committees, and Land and Building Committee submitted reports. Administrative reports from the director of curriculum/instruction and assessments, assistant superintendent and director of special student services were also submitted.
Michael Shimshak submitted the superintendent’s report as well as the enrollment report.
The adoption of the Illinois Association of School Boards New and Updated Policies also was discussed. During the discussions, student records, parental involvement, ethics and conduct were talked about.
In the latter part of the meeting, the discussions were about the action to be taken on resignations and classified salary schedule. The employment of a vision and hearing technician, a temporary superintendent’s secretary, and special education aides was discussed as well.
