Jefferson County public concerned about student safety

Highway

People expressed concerns for student safety during a recent meeting of the Jefferson County, Illinois Highway Committee.

During the public input portion, a number of members of the public talked about their concerns. Mike Smith said he was concerned about the safety of the traveling public, visitors and students. According to him, the HBAC system installation could not be done if the easement for the Clearwave Communication System was not received by the end of March. He added that it would have quite an impact on the occupancy of buildings.

Michael Bullard spoke about the 1 percent school tax referendum, which is to be placed on ballot. He also talked about its effect on county schools. He asked the Highway Committee to keep supporting the residents along Sparrow Lane on the water issue. He added that the easement issue should be resolved.

Ben Mitchell also expressed concern about the Clearwave Communication System for not getting the easement.

The committee members present in the meeting were Randy Edwards, Steve Draege, Jeff Williams and Justin Fulkerson. Others who were also present included Sean Wilkey, Tim Marlow, James Malone, Robert White, Brandon Simmons and Sandra Wellmaker.

In the meeting, a number of issues including paying monthly bills and monthly fuel (diesel and gasoline) were discussed. The approval of the Helts Sub Division, the Mullins Sub Division and Clearwave Communications easement were considered. The traffic control at Wells By Pass/Ambassador Lane was also discussed.
