Murphysboro, Illinois's Community Unit School District No. 186 recently responded for two requests falling under the Freedom of Information Act.
One request was from Patty Birk, who asked for information related to risk management or insurance consulting; current insurance carrier and costs for premiums. Another request came from Trey Cobb, with One Chance Illinois, requesting specific information about gifted or talented programs in the district.
Both requests were responded to within the legal timeframe during a recent regular meeting by the board.
Board members present in the meeting included President Michael Cripps, Kevin Beavers, Dr. John Corley, Cathy Layne, Kristi Miller and Steve McBride. Rick Runge was absent in the meeting.
Beavers made a motion to approve successfully completed credit hours for coursework toward the salary schedule of Keith Jones. The motion, seconded by Layne, approved the EDL 5700, Enhancing Effective Practice and SPE 5675, Assessments, Programs, and Services for Students with Exceptionalities and English Language Learners.
The administration is currently investigating ways to reduce spending. Efforts are under way to find other ways to fund athletics, reduce summer travel, increase fees for registration and class fees, non-renewals or reduction of staff. Early retirement incentives will not be available until January 2018.
