Paul Schimpf expressed his delight over Sen. David Luechtefeld’s endorsement of his run for State Senate in Illinois’ 58th District in a campaign ad, and said he plans to put voters first the same way the senator has.
Luechtefeld announced his retirement after 20 years in Springfield last June.
Schimpf, a retired U.S. Marine, is running against Sharee Langenstein, an attorney, for his seat.
In a campaign ad paid for by Citizens for Schimpf, the conservative candidate highlighted some similarities between himself and Luechtefeld.
“Like Senator Luechtefeld, I’m coming into politics from the outside,” Schimpf said. “You see, I’m not a lobbyist and I don’t have a political pedigree. Instead, I spent my adult life serving our country in the United States Marine Corp. I’m proud of that Marine Corp career, but there’s nothing that I’m more proud of right now than having Senator Luechtefeld’s endorsement.”
Schimpf went on to say instead of supporting special interest groups, he would represent the people of Southern Illinois as Luechtefeld has.
In another Citizens for Schimpf campaign ad, Schimpf said like all politicians, he is asking the citizens of Southern Illinois for their trust; but was quick to note an important difference – voters have already put their trust in him for 24 years, he said.
“You trusted me when I went to the United States Naval Academy to get a good education and not waste your tax dollars," Schimpf said. "You trusted me when I was an infantry officer to make sure that young marines and sailors under my command were well trained and kept safe. You even trusted me as lead attorney adviser in the trial of Saddam Hussain to represent the interests of the United States. I’m asking you to trust me again."
Schimpf is pro-life, and strongly believes in the Second Amendment, balanced budgets, revitalizing the Southern Illinois economy, state government reform, and protecting individual freedoms and religious liberty.
