Carbondale Board of Education District holds executive session to discuss personnel, other matters

The Board of Education of Carbondale, Illinois Elementary School District No. 95 holds executive session to discuss personnel and other matters during a recent meeting.

Those who attended the meeting included President John Major, Vice President Roger Pfister, Secretary Erinn Murphy, Edward Benyas, David Biggs, Michelle Connet and Robert Gallegly.

Pfister moved a motion, which was seconded by Benyas, to enter an executive session to discuss the performance, evaluation and compensation of specific personnel matters, matters relating to student discipline, matters relating to collective bargaining, and matters relating to pending litigation. The motion was carried with seven votes in favor.

During the public comments session, Jennifer Hartlieb, a third grade teacher at Thomas School, said that the Carbondale Education Association had made a formal request to allot the Faculty Council president time on the agenda at each board meeting per Article IX, Section E, Number 1 of the collective bargaining agreement which stated: “The Faculty Council president shall be the faculty representative at board meetings except executive session.”

During the Assistant Superintendent’s report, Justin Miller continued the report on the Land & Building Committee. He discussed performance contract issues of the schools, with a focus on Thomas School. He also discussed energy efficiency and reducing expenses associated with energy usage.
