The Downtown Master Plan Advisory Committee of Carbondale, Illinois discussed the America’s Best Community project during a recent meeting.
Chairman Jack Langowski gave the introduction to the project's details. Carbondale Main Street Executive Director Meghan Cole gave further details.
Carbondale has been selected to be a part of the top 50 but did not progress further. Cole said the America’s Best Community project was a great opportunity for the city of Carbondale and that the city obtained a standalone plan out of the process. She was proud of the work submitted. Langowski congratulated the city for entering the quarter-finals in the project.
Later, Langowski introduced Nikolas Davis, a senior associate with Houseal Lavigne Associates LLC. Davis presented the agenda to be discussed during the meeting regarding the downtown master plan with an Overview Process. He reviewed who the members of the consulting team were and who helped put together the data they would see that evening.
Davis also reviewed the steps to be taken to gather public input from all areas of the community. He discussed the framework of the plan. He said there would be three chapters. Chapter 1 will discuss the purpose of the plan and provide an introduction. Chapter 2 will discuss the Influences and Opportunities. Chapter 3 will discuss Actions and Recommendations.
