Du Quoin Public Library must spend $7,636 grant money by Aug. 15

The Du Quoin Public Library of Du Quoin, Illinois received $7,636.25 from the FY2015 Per Capita Grant program from Illinois that needs to be spent by Aug. 15.

The matter was discussed in a recent Board of Trustees meeting. It was also discussed that the E-rate 28-day bidding window had closed. The Schools and Libraries (E-rate) Program provides discounts to assist most schools and libraries in the U.S. obtain affordable Internet access and telecommunications services. A Form 470 can be filed, and Lazerware is offering to help with this process.

Library director Kristina Benson informed the board she had talked with the roofing contractor about recent leaks. The contractor plans to caulk the flashing. Benson said she is going to work on a Live and Learn Construction grant to replace the existing windows. 

Fifteen people attended the library’s first photography gallery opening. Upcoming events include a “How to Become a Librarian” speech April 13 and 14.

A motion was moved to accept a number of committees as appointed. The motion, moved by board member Pat Ferrari and seconded by board member Joyce Calvert, was approved.
