The Superintendent of the Board of Education of Illinois' DuQuoin Community Unit School District No. 300 discussed the budget for 2016-17 school year during a recent meeting.
Gary Kelly talked about the Governor’s recent state budget address, which has a potential impact on funding for education. Post discussion, a motion to authorize the administration to start budget preparation for the coming school year was carried. The administration was also authorized to post the required budget hearing notice for September.
During the public hearing, the Elverado Athletic Director as well as a number of parents in the Elverado School District talked about the benefits provided to the student-athletes by the football cooperative. They requested the board to reconsider a cooperative agreement between the two schools.
One participant from the DuQuoin School District talked about how students and taxpayers were concerned about the cooperative agreement. Board President Larry Valier thanked everyone who talked about their take on the cooperative agreement.
In the meeting, there was a discussion about the proposed amended tax levy, which would not change the aggregate tax levy adopted in December. A motion to adopt the amended tax levy was carried.
