Community Forum discusses how to make Carbondale safe

Microphone

A Community Forum was held yesterday in Carbondale, Illinois to discuss how to make the city safer.

As announced on the city's website, the public meeting was prompted by citizens' concerns over recent violence in the community. Mayor John "Mike" Henry and Interim City Manager Gary Williams met with citizens and decided to hold the forum at City Hall.

The topic to be discussed was: "What can we as a community do to make Carbondale safer and more welcoming for everyone?" Dr. John Washburn led the discussion, which was to be attended by City Council members, representatives from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Chief of Police Jeff Grubbs and others in the police department.

Carbondale residents interested in helping make the community safer were encouraged to attend.
