Schimpf's Waterloo campaign office to open June 25

A Waterloo campaign office for Paul Schimpf, Republican candidate for Illinois' Senate District 58, will open June 25.

A grand opening celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day. Attendees can enjoy lunch and pick up campaign signs and stickers. Schimpf will be in attendance.

Schimpf is a U.S. military veteran. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, graduating in 1993. He was a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He ran for Illinois Attorney General in 2014, losing to 12-year incumbent Lisa Madigan but carrying 68 out of 102 counties.

Schimpf is endorsed in this election by retiring incumbent Sen. David Luechtefeld.

As a a participant in the Marine Corps Law Education Program, Schimpf attended the Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale, graduating in 2000. He has served as a judge advocate (military attorney) and head prosecutor for the Recruit Depot and the Marine Corps Western Recruiting Region.

In 2004, Schimpf attended the Army’s advanced attorney training in Charlottesville, Virginia where he received his Masters of Law degree (LLM).

 In 2005, he served as deputy counsel at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar; he was later deployed to Iraq where he served as the lead American attorney advisor to the Iraqi prosecutors at Saddam Hussein's trial.

He has also served as the Military Legislative Assistant (MLA) for Rep. John Kline (R-MN) and staff judge advocate for Marine Corps Installations Command.

Schimpf retired from the Marine Corps in 2013. He now resides in Waterloo, Illinois and works for Columbia, Illinois-based law firm Stumpf & Gutknecht P.C.
