David Severin, the Republican candidate in House District 117, recently questioned his opponent’s fundraising as he compared statistics from Democrat state Rep. John Bradley’s coffers to his own campaign, highlighting that his own support is primarily local.
“Second quarter fundraising reports are in,” Severin said on his Facebook page, stating that for the year’s second quarter, he raised $9,335 solely from southern Illinois sources. Severin said that Bradley, on the other hand, obtained capital in the amount of $55,000 from Chicago and $12,400 from Springfield while his regional supporters contributed $2,000 or less.
“Now we know where John Bradley's money and support comes from,” Severin stated. “Will you help us beat John Bradley, Springfield insiders and the Chicago political machine?”
Severin said that Bradley has consistently backed House Speaker Mike Madigan’s tax-and-spend agenda, supporting higher taxes, reckless spending and a Chicago Public Schools bailout.
To counteract what Severin views as paying a dreadful price for Bradley’s loyalty to Madigan, the House Republican Organization recently released a broadcast TV advertisement to raise public awareness, citing higher taxes, crushing debt and the resulting strain on Illinois families.
“Forby, Bradley and Phelps: Loyal soldiers for Mike Madigan, politicians we can’t trust,” the ad stated in part. Even as the ad charged him with doing Madigan’s bidding, Bradley claimed that he was no puppet of the House speaker, describing his rapport with Madigan as professional.
