Paul Schimpf, retired Marine lieutenant colonel and Republican candidate for Senate District 58 – Waterloo, recently commented on presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s visit to Illinois in Waterloo and its impact on his election opponent Sheila Simon.
"As former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton touches down in Springfield today, it is imperative that we begin to showcase my opponent's questionable judgment when it comes to her recommendations on policy," Schimpf said. “Sheila Simon heaps praise on Mrs. Clinton by calling her 'amazingly qualified' to be the president of the United States.”
Schimpf said that Clinton and former Lt. Gov. Simon are tied to the past eight years of policies that have nearly destroyed the Southern Illinois coal industry and perpetuated unprecedented attacks on the Second Amendment.
"Sheila Simon should rethink her endorsement of Hillary Clinton and her disastrous plans for Southern Illinois," Schimpf said.
Referring to Clinton's position on the Second Amendment as well documented, Schimpf said that the candidate has stated she believes that there are “too many guns” and that the former secretary of state supports the national registration of firearms and general licensing of all gun owners.
"Recently, [NRA’s EVP] Wayne LaPierre made one thing very clear about the upcoming 2016 presidential election,” Schimpf said. “LaPierre believes that Hillary Clinton is an extreme threat to our right to keep and bear arms."
