Sheriff Travis Allen was present to discuss the possibility of hiring 4 additional deputies for the Sheriff's Office. Allen cited that his department is tracking to handle 10,000 law events this year. Currently, he has 18 deputies which include the Chief Deputy, Allen stated that he would not hire all 4 deputies at the beginning of the year, rather hire 2 deputies in December, and 2 additional deputies halfway through the year, With more deputies being hired, this will also require the purchase of additional squad cars. Allen's patrol ideas include dividing the county into quad zones which would implement 4 deputies per shift. This request will be considered through the budget process. Motion by Sean Wilkey and seconded by Robert White to recommend to the Full Board to table the request from the Sheriff for 4 additional deputies until the budget process can be completed.
Motion Carried. Vote – 3 aye, 1 nay (Fulkerson)
