The Carbondale Human Relations Committee (HRC) will meet today at 5 p.m. at City Hall/Civic Center in Room 103.
The public is invited to attend. Among the issues to be discussed are public education and the HRC website, the campus forum and racial taboo.
The agenda also includes process assessments. These reports will update the commission on the latest happenings in each area. Today's agenda includes reports from the Neighborhood Action Group, NonViolent Carbondale Project, Racial Justice Coalition, Sparrow Coalition and Law Enforcement.
The commission will also review items to be forwarded to the City Council for further action. The next City Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20, in the City Council Chambers.
The Human Relations Commission was created in 2003. It serves as an advisory body to the City Council, primarily on human relations topics. It has a number of duties to the City Council and community, including fostering understanding and equality among all people in the Carbondale community. It also assists members of the public in filing complaints with the appropriate agency regarding discrimination and other issues.
