Dale Fowler, Republican candidate for the District 59 state Senate seat, recently spoke out on jobs and economic development.
A fifth-generation Southern Illinoisan, he has watched the state stumble while attempting to recover from the 2007-2009 Great Recession and the recent budget impasse.

The uncertainty of the budget, high taxes and a multitude of business regulations have hampered the state's economic recovery. Businesses and workers have left the state, seeking locations with lower taxes and a business-friendly climate.
"Too many hard-working people in Southern Illinois can’t find a job," Fowler said. "It is time to get our government working again so companies can feel confident investing in Illinois. We cannot rely on our state government to create jobs. The growth we need must come from the private sector. In order to foster this much-needed capital investment, we must take steps to make Illinois more competitive."
Fowler brings his experience in farming, business and corrections, as well as his experience as mayor of Harrisburg, to the Senate race. In addition to serving as mayor, he is the Peoples National Bank's business development officer. Fowler brought more than $60 million in capital investment and 200 jobs to Harrisburg in the last two years.
Fowler is also co-chairman of the Saline County CEO program, which provides information and resources on entrepreneurships and business startups to local youth.
