The Sparta Community Unit School District #140 Board of Education met Sept. 8 to approve the 2017 budget.
Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:
"School board members elected or appointed to their seat after June 13, 2011 complete within the first year of their term a minimum of four hours of professional development leadership training covering topics in education and labor law, financial oversight and accountability, and fiduciary responsibilities of a board member. School board meetings are the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m."
PERSONNEL
The Board accepted the resignation of Jenny Vise as Chemistry Teacher at Sparta High School. Taylor Martin resigned as Assistant Softball Coach at Sparta High School. Jordan Beckley resigned as Assistant Basketball Coach at Sparta High School. Stacie Baue was employed as a Science Teacher at Sparta High School.
Justen Kempfer was approved as the Head Basketball Coach at Evansville Attendance Center. Bob Huether and Sherry Walter were approved as Volunteer Assistant Cross Country Coaches at Evansville Attendance Center.
Ryan Ramsey, Jim Jeffers, Kent Bloom, Marty Patton, Larry Pierson and Chris Brooks were approved as Volunteer Assistant Golf Coaches at Sparta High School.
Jim Jeffers was approved as an Assistant Coach for Boys’ Basketball at Sparta High School.
Sean Honey was approved as a Junior Class Sponsor at Sparta High School. Dustin Lorenz was approved as the Percussion Coach. Abbey Miles will be a
Student Council Sponsor. Rachel Thies will be the Science Club Sponsor at Sparta High School.
Jordan Beckley was approved as the Head Coach for Boys’ Basketball at Sparta Lincoln School. Justin Kostelac will be the Assistant Coach. Larry Ashley and Barry Dickerson will be Volunteer Assistant Coaches.
Sandra Jackson will be the Assistant Coach for Girls’ Basketball at Sparta Lincoln School. Mekalia Cooper will be the Cheerleading Coach at Sparta Lincoln School.
FINANCE
After a budget hearing, the Board of Education approved the FY 2017 Budget.
The FY16 Audit was presented and approved.
The Administrator and Teacher Salary and Benefits report for the 2016 school year was approved as presented and will be posted on the district website as required by law.
The Transportation contract was approved for the 2016-17 school year.
The Health Life Safety amendment for the Sparta Lincoln School roof was approved in the amount of $60,998.
The administrator and non-union non-certified staff pay increases were approved as presented.
MISCELLANEOUS
The Sparta Lincoln School Kindergarten teachers addressed the Board of Education regarding class sizes. They asked for another teacher or classroom aides.

Lincoln School.
