Murphysboro CUSD board presents information on budget

The Murphysboro Community Unified School District 186 Board of Education met Sept. 27 to present information on the proposed budget.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:

A Budget Hearing was called to order by the President of the Board of Education, Mike

Cripps, at 6:47 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, in the Board Room at McElvain School,

593 Ava Road, Murphysboro, Illinois.

Board Members present: Dr. Corley, Mr. Cripps, Mrs. Layne, Mrs. Miller, Mr. Runge.

Board Members absent: Mr. Beavers, Mr. McBride

Administrators Present: Mr. Grode, Mrs. Bush, Mr. Wilson, Mr. Keener, Mr. Huppert,

Mrs. Ehlers.

Administrators Absent: Mr. Ellermeyer, Mrs. Gibbs.

Others present: Steve Carrington, Len Novara, John Keller, Georgia Marshall, Denise

Brown, Julie Sikorski, Catlin Langellier, Jan Luecking, Ashley Runge, Melinda Pierson, Monica

May, Dawn Taylor, Heather Parr, Jessica White, Liz Grandt, Matt Todd, Amy Karg, Troy

Griswold, Allison Svanda, Michele Carter, Amy Norris, Tracy Landewee, Stacy Stanton and

husband, Shannon Green, Brooke Guthman, Cara Doerr, students.

Mr. Runge made the motion and Mrs. Layne gave the second to approve the agenda as

presented.

A voiced vote was recorded as follows: Aye – All; Nay – None; Absent – Beavers,

McBride

The president declared the motion carried.

Mrs. Bush presented information concerning the proposed budget. Copies of the

budget were distributed at the August board meeting. No comments or questions have been

brought forth the administration. A more condensed summary of the budget was provided to

the board. Mrs. Bush indicated that this was a balanced budget. Concerns still remain with

state funding. The administration continues to be vigilant with funding sources and funding

expenditures.

There were no concerns brought forward under public comment. Under employee

comment, Matt Todd (4th grade teacher/MEA President) asked if the board/administration had a

strategic plan in place especially with the present financial difficulties of the district. Melinda

Pierson (social worker/MEA Vice-President) needed clarification on numbers in the budget.

Mrs. Miller made the motion and Mrs. Layne gave the second to adjourn the meeting at

7:17 p.m.
