Among state Sen. Dale Fowler’s (R-Harrisburg) responsibilities, one lesser-known but vital element comprises his Fowler Bonan Foundation for Southern Illinois youth and families in need.
Fowler recently promoted a foundation event via Facebook.
From 5-8 p.m. on April 2, constituents can enjoy fine food and beverages, music and a silent auction while attending Taste of Southern Illinois — filling a critical need for southern Illinois young people.
“Please save the date and join us as we strive to assist more children with new shoes and clothes for school,” Fowler posted on Facebook.
The event celebrating Southern Illinois’ finest restaurants is slated for the Bonan Business Center at 540 N. Commercial St., Unit 101, in Harrisburg. Tickets are $40 per person in advance and $50 at the door.
The occasion will benefit the foundation’s “Clothes for Kids,” an affiliated Harrisburg-based charity supporting Southern Illinois youth — and now taking on an identity of its own, with a new website.
Serving 17 Southern Illinois counties, Clothes for Kids provides low-income children with clothing and shoes as well as helps families experiencing setbacks due to illness or adversity.
Created in September 2012, the nonprofit foundation strives to make a difference “one child at a time.” With slogans such as “Help make barefoot an option, not a necessity” and “Providing new outlooks through new outfits,” its website supports and promotes the organization’s fundraising activities in addition to providing links for resources.
