Mount Vernon City school board plans staff development

The Mount Vernon City Schools, District 80 Board of Education met Jan. 20 to plan staff development.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the board:

January 20, 2017

The Mount Vernon City Schools, District 80 Board of Education met in a special meeting on Friday, January 20, 2017, at the District Office, 2710 North Street, Mt. Vernon, Illinois, at 6:03 p.m. The following board members answered roll call: Nunnery, Lee, Holt, Greathouse, Hollmann, and Reynolds. Board members absent – Zirkelbach. Also present: Superintendent Aletta Lawrence, Assistant Superintendent Ryan Swan, Dr. Dee Schnautz, Travis Morse, and Connie Knowles, board secretary.

BOARD DEVELOPMENT

A. Warm-up B. Fundamental Principles of Effective Governance (IASB)

Mrs. Lawrence talked about the pamphlet given to the board. C. Code of Conduct for Members of School Boards (IASB) was reviewed. D. School Board Member Opportunities and Expectations(IASB) was reviewed.

REVIEW OF DISTRICT INFORMATION

A. Personnel

The Board reviewed seniority lists of the certified and classified staff. The Board reviewed staff (directory) of buildings. Ryan Swan reviewed staffing projections for the 2017-2018 school year.

B. Staff Development

Dr. Schnautz reviewed the Curriculum Focus. Dr. Schnautz reviewed the professional development events and 1⁄2 day Inservice Programs for certified and classified staff.

FACILITIES

A. Referendum – Mrs. Lawrence reviewed the FGM Health/Life/Safety report and noted items completed and to be completed by District 80 maintenance, as well as items that have to be completed by other professionals. B. Former District Office – Mrs. Lawrence advised that the old District Office is still being rented by the Franklin/Jefferson Special Education and reviewed the updates that District 80 maintenance staff completed at the building over the summer. C. Safety and Security – tabled.

CLOSED SESSION Motion by Lee, second by Holt, to go into closed session for security procedures and the use of personnel and equipment to respond to an actual, a threatened, or a reasonably potential danger to the safety of employees, students, staff, the public, or public property. (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(8). Roll Call: Ayes – Lee, Holt, Nunnery, Hollmann, Greathouse, and Reynolds.

Absent – Zirkelbach. Nays – None. Motion carried.

The Board adjourned to closed session at 6:49 p.m.

OPEN SESSION The Board of Education returned to open session at 7:22 p.m.

At this time Mrs. Lawrence distributed copies of the 2016-2017 Board Goals for the Board to review before reconvening on January 21, 2017.

ADJOURNMENT Motion by Lee, second by Hollmann, to adjourn and reconvene on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10:15 a.m.

Roll Call: Ayes – Lee, Hollmann, Nunnery, Greathouse, Holt, and

Reynolds. Absent – Zirkelbach. Nays – None. Motion carried.

The meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
