The Mount Vernon Business Women’s Club is sponsoring a spring candidates forum today.

The forum will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Rolland Lewis Building in Veterans’ Park, 800 S 27th St., Mount Vernon.

Starting with an hourlong meet and greet, residents can introduce themselves and mingle with local candidates to be able to make their most informed voting choices. The event will include refreshments and give voters an opportunity to ask the candidates questions in preparation for the April 4 consolidated general election.

At 6:30 p.m., candidates will participate in a forum moderated by WMIX’s Chad Baker. It will be broadcast live on WMIX 940 AM. The forum is not structured as a debate.

Those running for Mount Vernon Township supervisor are Jason Hulbert and Amanda Bean. The candidates for Mount Vernon Township highway commissioner are Kenny Hayes, James “Jimmy” Hayes Jr. and Mike Hulvey.

Three candidates vying for the position of Mount Vernon mayor are John Lewis, Donte Moore and Dennis McEnaney.

Four contenders for Mount Vernon City Council include James Rippy, Mike Young, Raymond Botch Jr. and Bernie Dickneite.

Finally, running for the Mount Vernon Township High School 201 board of education are Brittany Boldt, Kathy Asbery, Carl Miller, David Kassner, “Butch” Elbert L. Staples II and Brian Rogers.

Additional candidates may appear; according to WMIX, the Mount Vernon City Schools District 80 ballot referendum will also be on the agenda.
