Record-setting reliever Ryan Netemeyer has been chosen as a semifinalists for the College Baseball Foundation's National Pitcher of the Year, Southern Illinois University announced on its website recently.
The Salukis' top relief pitcher set the school record this season with 14 saves, which ranked No. 2 nationally in NCAA Division I. The junior from Belleville also made the Stopper of the Year Watch List of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
In his first 28 innings this season, Netemeyer had a 1.93 earned-run average with 28 strikeouts, 18 walks and 14 hits. During one stretch of the season, he did not allow an earned run over 23 consecutive innings.
The semifinalist list includes 21 pitchers. That group will be narrowed to a list of finalists, and the award will be presented to the winner this summer.
