The price of local government: City of Waterloo

The city of Waterloo budget was $28.45 million for its 2015 fiscal year, or $7,064.19 per household.

That's a decrease of four percent from 2014 when the city spent $29.64 million, or $7,359.31 per household.

Waterloo has 4,028 households and a population of 9,811.

Since 2001, the city of Waterloo budget has grown by 36.7 percent, from $20.81 million. The city population has grown 28.9 percent over the same period, from 7,614.

Salaries accounted for 14.2 percent of city spending in 2015. Waterloo property taxpayers paid $4.02 million for 55 full-time employees and 50 part-time employees.

In 2001, the city had 49 full-time employees and 17 part-time employees and spent $2.94 million.
