Outlining key policy issues from the GOP perspective, the Republican party of Randolph County recently updated its official party platform on its website.
“We, the members of the Republican Party of Randolph County, Illinois, believe that our County and its Citizens will secure and sustain the blessings of liberty and well-being as a society based upon these principles," the document begins.
According to the platform, the two primary themes in society are religious freedom and faith and adherence to the U.S. Constitution. These themes affect the rest of the platform. For example, the sanctity of life is reflected by belief in a Creator, and freedom is defined in terms of the Constitutional phrase “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Other planks invoke traditional Republican positions. The nuclear family is said to be the glue that holds society together, limited taxation is depicted as the engine for job growth, and education has responsibility to instill “high moral character.”
More recent issues that have become salient include law enforcement, the legal system and national security. While the platform affirms the right of equal protection, it also supports reducing “frivolous litigation” and upholds the public’s right to self-defense in accordance with the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
