The Harrisburg High School Bulldogs are hoping to get back to alpha dog status after a disappointing season last year.

After claiming a share of the Southern Illinois River to River-Ohio Conference title in 2015, the Bulldogs finished the season in fourth place in 2016, with a 4-5 overall record and a 2-3 record in conference play. The offense averaged 26 points per game and the defense gave up an average of 22 points per game.

Still, Harrisburg claimed some impressive wins. The Bulldogs defeated Carbondale Community High School, 34-7, and conference rival Benton Consolidated High School, 42-7.

The Bulldogs will kick off the 2017 season on Aug. 25 against Mt. Carmel, then play their home opener against Du Quoin High School a week later.
