Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton) came to the West Frankfort City Council meeting on July 25 with a special message of thanks to three members of the city's police department, two city firefighters and two residents, according to a press release.
Detective Jeff Tharp, officers James Trogolo and Jason Junker, firefighters Gary Little and Matt Morthland, and Dustin Shelton and Scotty O'Daniel received certificates of recognition for helping a motorist in a vehicle that got carried off an area road in flooding on April 29.
“These individuals showed incredible courage responding to a very dangerous situation involving a sinking car and a woman trapped inside,” Severin said in the news release. “Each of them will say they were simply doing their job, or did what anyone else would have done in that situation. However, they truly went above and beyond. It is stories like this that assure the community as a whole that we are in very good hands.”
