Carbondale’s The Stage Company is calling for cast members for its first production of the 2017-18 season, "No Bones About It," according to the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce.
The company is looking for four men and three women of any age. Auditions will be held on Aug. 28 and 29 at the Varsity Center’s Arnold Theater, with cold readings running from 6 to 8 p.m. and musical auditions from 8 to 10 p.m., depending on the number of people vying for the roles.
"No Bones About It" is a musical comedy, so those wishing to audition will need to perform 16 to 32 bars of music, bringing either a karaoke track CD or sheet music for piano accompaniment. CDs cannot have any vocals, including background vocals, and sheet music should be marked to indicate the bars that will be performed.
The show is a re-imagining of "Romeo and Juliet," set at the Verona National Ribfest barbecue competition and focusing on Ronny and Julie, young lovers on the opposite sides of a family barbecue feud. The company said the show has never been performed in southern Illinois and is infrequently offered in the country as a whole, allowing for a creative, original production. It will be performed Oct. 13-15 and 19-22.
