City of Red Bud Public Health and Safety Committee met May 15.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Committee Members Present: Bill Hanebutt, Curt Guebert, Kyle Donjon

Committee Members Absent: Glenn Linnertz, David Friess

Council Members Present: Clem Esker, Mike Reed, Susan Harbaugh

Others Present:Mayor Tim Lowry, City Attorney Paul Ray, City Superintendent Josh Eckart, Code Administrator Jeff Mueller, Police Chief John Brittingham, Administrative Assistant Pam Poetker, City Clerk Joanne Cowell

Committee Chairman Hanebutt called the meeting to order at 7:49 p.m.

New Business:

I.Approval of Prior Month’s Meeting Minutes – March 20 and April 17, 2017 Meeting

Recommendation made by Committee Chairman Hanebutt, seconded by Committee Member Donjon, to approve the minutes from the March 20 and April 17, 2017 meetings. Carried

II.Department Activity Report

The department activity report was included in the packets.

III.Addition of School Zone on Charles Street from Locust to Hilltop

School zone extension on Charles Street from Locust to Hilltop was discussed.

Recommendation made by Committee Chairman Hanebutt, seconded by Committee Member Guebert, to approve the authorization for the attorney to draft an ordinance extending the school speed zone. Carried

IV.Parking Issue at Red Bud Health Center (824 Locust Street)

V.Hiring of Part-Time Patrolman-Authorization to Advertise

No Action

VI.2 Hour Parking Signs – West Market Street

No Action

VII.Authorization to Purchase Two Squad Cars

Chief Brittingham requested replacing the two Crown Vics with Dodge Chargers from Weir at the state bid price of $23,664.

Recommendation made by Committee Chairman Hanebutt, seconded by Committee Member Donjon, to approve the authorization to purchase two new police cars, NTE $67,000. Carried

VIII.Authorization to Hire Animal Control Officer

Recommendation made by Committee Chairman Hanebutt, seconded by Committee Member Guebert, to approve the authorization to hire JR Hudson as animal control officer at the current rate of pay, pending physical & drug testing. Carried

IX.Public Comments/Anything for the Good of the City

None

Meeting was adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
