Duquoin FD responds to 36 fires in 2016

Duquoin Fire Department responded to 77 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the SW Illinois News.

The calls in Duquoin included 36 fires - 12 structure fires, four vehicle fires and 18 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $143,550 in fire loss - or about $3,988 per fire.

The department also received 41 false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries and 36 civilian non-fire injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Duquoin Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has seven active employees and nine retired or inactive employees, was $252,068 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $7,002 for every fire in 2016.
