The City of Benton Zoning & Planning Commission met August 2.

The Benton Zoning and Planning Commission's regular business meeting was called to order by Chairman Cockrum at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the Benton Municipal Building at 1403 South Main Street. Roll Call: Cockrum, McGuire, Bowlin, Collier, Shockley, Payne-Hubler. Absent: Neal. Also present: David Garavalia, Zoning Administrator.
Motion made by McGuire and seconded by Shockley to approve minutes of the regular business meeting of July 5, 2017. Vote: Ayes: Cockrum, McGuire, Shockley, Payne-Hubler. Abstain: Bowlin, Collier. Nays: 0.
Under old business, update on GIS mapping received from Shockley, Collier and Garavalia. Mr. Garavalia reported Mayor Kondritz had sent letter to county requesting mapping information. He also reported CD had been received on 07/26/2017 from Shawnee containing mapping information but no changes had been made. After discussion, motion made by Payne-Hubler and seconded by Collier to recommend to city council the following: to contact the city engineers to complete GIS mapping and correct the inaccuracies. Vote: Ayes: Cockrum, McGuire, Bowlin, Collier, Payne-Hubler, Abstain: Shockley. Nays: 0.
Under new business, Payne-Hubler discussed possibility of recommending to the city council the waiving of building permits for owner occupied homes. Payne-Hubler stated would have version(s) completed for next meeting. At that time, members can discuss details.
Under miscellaneous business, Garavalia discussed building permits. Recent ones have been for fences.
