Photographer John Longmire's work featuring local musicians was highlighted in The Varsity Center’s “Music Around Southern Illinois” exhibit in October, according to a Carbondale Chamber of Commerce press release.
During the exhibit, framed prints of his work were for sale at a discounted price, with some of them autographed, during a reception Oct. 28. Some of his framed prints can be ordered, according to a press release.
“I like taking pictures of musicians, candid scenes and performances, because I do not have to direct the action and sound super bossy,” Longmire said in the press release. “And, I really enjoy bringing attention to the wonderful local musicians I shoot pictures of.”
Longmire photographed numerous musicians such as Mo Pitney, Big Larry, Ivas John, Robbie Stokes, Joe Castregon, Tawl Paul, Nate Graham, Tim Crosby, Marshall Anderson, The Bankesters, Brian Curran and dozens of others, the Chamber of Commerce said in the release.
Other events at The Varsity Center includes a Nov. 18 event during which southern Illinoisans can see The Swamp Tigers one last time for the local band’s farewell tour in a performance on the Balcony Stage.
