Summersville School District 79 Board met August 15. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

1. Call to order


     Mr. Tate, President, called the meeting to order at 7:04 PM.

2. Roll Call

     Members Present:      Jay Tate, President; Derek Sledge, Vice-President; Jeff Steffy;

                                         Chad Curd; Becky Barbour

     Members Absent:        Clint Turner, Secretary; Anthony Fisher

     Also Present:               Mark Zahm, Superintendent

                                          Carolyn Clark, Secretary

     Visitor’s Present:         Keyma Mount; Sarah Wagner; Monica Maxey;

                                         Kristin Wright; Jamie Wheeler; Stephanie Reynolds;

                                         Jennifer Barbian; Deanna McCoy; Sammy McClellan

3. Opening Prayer

     Chad Curd opened the meeting with prayer.

4. Consent Agenda-The following item(s) will be considered for action (consent approval):

     A. Minutes of the July 18, 2017, Regular Minutes and closed session minutes,

     B. August, 2017 Bills

     C. Monthly Financial Report

MOTION # 1

Motion was made by Mr. Curd and seconded by Mr. Sledge to approve the consent

agenda consisting of the following:

A. Minutes of the July 18, 2017, Regular Minutes. (Closed Session tabled until later in

the meeting)

B. August, 2017 Bill

C. Monthly Financial Report

     5. Recognition of Visitors

Mr. Tate, President, recognized visitors that were present.

     6. Old Business

A. Bimbo Bakers USA Bread Bid

MOTION # 2

Motion was made by Mr. Steffy and seconded by Mr. Sledge to approve the bid received

from Bimbo Bakeries for bread products for FY18. Tate-yes; Barbour-yes; Sledge-yes;

Curd-yes; Steffy-yes.

7. Closed Session

     A. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal

          of specific employees of the public body.

          1. Hiring of Special Education Teacher

          2. Hiring of 1st grade teacher

          3. Superintendent Payroll Approval

          4. Hiring of teacher aides (Title I; Kindergarten one-on-one; 1st grade one-on-one)

          5. Hiring of Volleyball Coach

MOTION # 3

Motion was made by Mr. Curd and seconded by Mrs. Barbour to go into closed session

at 7:08 PM.

          1. Hiring of Special Education Teacher

MOTION # 5

Motion was made by Mr. Sledge and seconded by Mr. Turner to hire Kristen Wright

as Special Education Teacher for FY18. Steffy-yes; Tate-yes; Barbour-yes; Turneryes;

Sledge-yes; Curd-yes.

2. Hiring of 1st Grade Teacher

MOTION # 6

Motion was made by Mr. Steffy and seconded by Mrs. Barbour to hire Jennifer Barbian

as 1st Grade Teacher for FY18. Tate-yes; Turner-yes; Steffy-yes; Curd-yes; Barbour-yes;

Sledge-yes.

3. Superintendent Payroll Approval

MOTION # 7

Motion was made by Mr. Curd and seconded by Mrs. Barbour to approve to increase

the Superintendent’s salary at 1% for FY18 in accordance with the teacher contract.

4. Hiring of Teacher Aides

MOTION # 8

Motion was made by Mr. Curd and seconded by Mr. Turner to hire Julie Ohley as Title I

MOTION # 9

Motion was made by Mr. Curd and seconded by Mrs. Barbour to hire Lacey Perrin as a

one-on-one Kindergarten aide for FY18. Steffy-yes; Curd-yes; Tate-yes; Turner-abstain;

Barbour-yes; Sledge-yes.

MOTION #10

Motion was made by Mr. Curd and seconded by Mr. Steffy to hire Melissa Morris as a

one-on-one 1st grade aide. Steffy-yes; Curd-yes; Tate-yes; Turner-yes; Barbour-yes;

Sledge-yes.

MOTION # 11

Motion was made by Mr. Curd and seconded by Mr. Sledge to hire Cheryl McKay as

classroom aide for FY18. Steffy-yes; Curd-yes; Tate-yes; Turner-yes; Barbour-yes;

Sledge-yes.

5. Hiring of Volleyball Coach

MOTION # 12

Motion was made by Mr. Curd and seconded by Mr. Tate to hire Stephanie Reynolds as

volleyball coach for FY18. Sledge-yes; Turner-yes; Barbour-yes; Steffy-yes; Tate-yes;

Curd-yes.

B. Approve the Tentative Budget 2017/2018

MOTION # 13

Motion was made by Mr. Sledge and seconded by Mr. Steffy to approve the 2017-2018

Tentative Budget as presented. Barbour-yes; Steffy-yes; Curd-yes; Sledge-yes; Turneryes;

Tate-yes.

C. Set Budget Hearing

MOTION # 14

Motion was made by Mr. Sledge and seconded by Mrs. Barbour to set the Budget

Hearing for Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM in the Board Room. Curd-yes;
