Summersville School District 79 Board met September 19. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

1. Call to order

     Mr. Tate, President, called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

2. Roll Call

     Members Present:          Jay Tate, President; Clint Turner, Secretary; Jeff Steffy;

                                            Becky Barbour; Anthony Fisher

     Members Absent:           Derek Sledge, Vice-President; Chad Curd

     Also Present:                  Mark Zahm, Superintendent

                                             Carolyn Clark, Secretary

                                             Vicki Penrod, Bookkeeper/Treasurer

     Visitor’s Present:             Monica Maxey; Amy Hayes; Wes Plummer

3. Opening Prayer

Jay Tate opened the meeting with prayer.

4. Consent Agenda-The following item(s) will be considered for action (consent approval):

A. Minutes of the August 15, 2017, Regular Minutes and closed session minutes,

B. September, 2017 Bills

C. Monthly Financial Report

MOTION # 1

Motion was made by Mrs. Barbour and seconded by Mr. Fisher to approve the consent

agenda consisting of the following:

A. Minutes of the August 15, 2017, Regular Minutes and closed session minutes

B. September, 2017 Bill

C. Monthly Financial Report

Steffy-yes; Tate-yes; Barbour-yes; Turner-yes; Fisher-yes.

5. Budget Hearing

Mr. Tate, President, opened the Budget Hearing at 7:08 PM.

Mrs. Penrod, Bookkeeper/Treasurer discussed with the Board the proposed budget for

FY18.

Receiving no other questions or comments, the hearing was closed at 7:20 PM

6. Recognition of Visitors

Mr. Tate, President, recognized visitors that were present.

Wes Plummer, expressed his concerns about Casey students not being invited to our

school dance.

Chad Curd arrived at 7:29 PM

7. Old Business

There was no old business for discussion or action.

8. Closed Session

A. The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal

of specific employees of the public body.

1. Approval of a volunteer parent for Kindergarten and 1st grade.

MOTION # 2

Motion was made by Mr. Fisher and seconded by Mr. Turner to go into closed session at

7:42 PM for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or

dismissal of specific employees of the public body.

MOTION # 3

Motion was made by Mr. Curd and seconded by Mr. Fisher to come out of closed

session at 8:08 PM. Tate-yes; Barbour-yes; Curd-yes; Steffy-yes; Turner-yes; Fisheryes.

9. New Business

A. Closed Session Action

1. Approve volunteer parent

MOTION # 4

Motion was made by Mrs. Barbour and seconded by Mr. Steffy to approve Jackeline

Cintra as a volunteer parent in Kindergarten and 1st grade. Steffy-yes; Tate-yes;

Barbour-yes; Turner-yes; Fisher-yes; Curd-yes.

B. Adopt 2017-2018 Budget

MOTION # 5

Motion was made by Mr. Fisher and seconded by Mr. Steffy to approve the 2017-2018

Budget as presented. Steffy-yes; Barbour-yes; Turner-yes; Tate-yes; Curd-yes; Fisheryes

C. Review and approve the Summersville Grade School #79 audit

MOTION # 6

Motion was made by Mr. Fisher and seconded by Mrs. Barbour to approve the FY17

audit as presented. Steffy-yes; Curd-yes; Tate-yes; Turner-yes; Barbour-yes; Fisher-yes.

D. Transfer to IMRF

MOTION # 7

Motion was made by Mr. Fisher and seconded by Mr. Turner to transfer $40,000 from

IMRF to the Education Fund. Fisher-yes; Turner-yes; Barbour-yes; Steffy-yes; Tate-yes;

Curd-yes.

MOTION # 8

Motion was made by Mrs. Barbour and seconded by Mr. Steffy to abate $60,000 in

Working Cash Fund to IMRF. Turner-yes; Tate-yes; Fisher-yes; Barbour-yes; Curd-yes;

Steffy-yes.

E. Basketball Goal Repair Quotes

MOTION # 9

Motion was made by Mr. Steffy and seconded by Mr. Tate to approve the quote

received from Sports Con in the amount of $600 to repair the basketball goal cables.

Motion was made by Mr. Fisher and seconded by Mr. Curd at 8:45 PM to adjourn.
